Perhaps because most of the parent companies of TV news broadcasts are staunch supporters of SOPA:

Just in case you were wondering why TV news is igniring this, if it is such a hot topic…
Isn’t a lie of omission still a lie, when it comes to building up trust in your news-sources?
Or is it unreasonable for us to expect news reporters to report news honestly and thoroughly, regardless of how it affects their corporate owners? Because if we cannot, we must openly realize this and re-categorize ‘news reporters’ as ‘corporate spin officers’ and view all they say through the appropriate lens…
…and people wonder why the legacy media is in its death-throws…

Despite the media black-out, opposition to SOPA and PIPA has become so strong that its supporters have resorted to a delaying tactic. They have postponed the vote, hoping to schedule it for a later date, when it will have slipped out of the public’s notoriously fleeting attention.
For the moment, this is a victory of sorts.
In response to the We the People petition against SOPA, the White House has admitted that
“Any effort to combat online piracy must guard against the risk of online censorship of lawful activity and must not inhibit innovation by our dynamic businesses large and small.”
But they haven’t really backed off that far, because
“the Administration calls on all sides to work together to pass sound legislation this year that provides prosecutors and rights holders new legal tools to combat online piracy originating beyond U.S. borders.”
So we must not be gulled into dropping our guard.
They are relentless.
