Klutzy….

In the next little while, I will be off for  a bit of a break…

During a little accident (I am rather klutzy) last week, I kind of messed up one shoulder.  The MDs put it together as best they could, but they have to wait for the worst of the swelling to go down a bunch before they can see if the bits of bone will line up as they are now, or if they’ll need to go in.

I myself am fine.  Too ‘fine’, perhaps!  While I wait, I am ‘being kept comfortable’…. and I suspect it is a bad idea to blog while I am this very ‘comfortable’ on medication. (I am having trouble focusing on them little letters, anyway – the seem to be doing the czardas!)

Therefore, I will be off for a break…

Ha ha -get it?  ‘Off for a break!’

You and the Mayor – there seems to be a lot of “unexplained” accidents going around. Currie’s site is down so my suspicions are on the usual suspects =just saying!

Get well thanks to the miracle restorative powers of pain medication.

For all their timid orthodoxy in regard to systemic problems, this kind of mechanical repair is something that doctors are rather good at.

In fact, they are even better at it than they give themselves credit for, so there is every reason to be optimistic.

    Thanks for the good wishes!

And, yes, I am very hopeful.

When I first realized my shoulder had gotten itself dislocated, I walked my kids through the steps of how to put it back. They tried valiantly a few times. When my friend and her daughter arrived, they tried to hold be down (as per my instructions) while my sons kept trying to pop the shoulder back in.

We kept this up until my hubby arrived and packed me off to the emergency – the muscles began to go into a spasm by then, so there was no point continuing on our own.

The bitch of it was – it felt like it went back in a couple of times, but it would not stay in.

They did the same at the hospital, but, thankfully, without me being conscious.

    They took X-rays.

Then they tried to put it in again.

    And so on…a few times.

It turns out that not only did I dislocate the shoulder and tear the cartlige, I also seem to have fractured the top of the humerus into a few very pointy and floaty shards. This made it hard to determine what exactly constitutes the ‘shoulider’ being ‘back in’: is it percenage based? If so, by volume or by number of pieces? How do you ’round off’?

(Get it – sharp bits of bone – ’round off’!!! I am so witty when I am on painkillers!!!)

    (I am, of course exaggerating … a little …)

Seeing the first X-ray, one of the doctors turned green and looked close to passing out – cool! I stiil have my ability to shock!

So, for now, my shoulder is ‘mostly in’ and immobilized, while we wait for the swelling to go down and see what the bone fragments will do, so the MDs can evaluate which options are even available. Perhaps it will jigsaw itself into shape! With me being allergic to almost every antibiotic known to medicine, they are taking the ‘conservative’ approach.

In the meantime, they are being very generous with the painkillers…
